Applications for the Trustees' Leadership Scholarship Award

Since 1923, Mott Community College has offered quality education to the residents of Genesee County and surrounding communities. Each year, the college presents a Trustees' Leadership Scholarship award to one graduating senior from each high school within the college district. Each “Trustee Scholar” receives up to two years free tuition and fees to attend Mott Community College.

Who is Eligible for the Scholarship?

Students must meet several criteria in order to be eligible for the Trustees' Leadership Scholarship award. Scholarships are given to students based on academic achievement as well as demonstrated leadership abilities and community activities. Additionally, student recipients must have graduated high school by June 30th in order to be eligible.

Scholarships for Nursing & other health-related programs

• Stacey Braden-Brown, RN Nursing Scholarship $1,500 award given to a student pursuing a nursing degree at Mott Community College or UM-Flint. Preference given to applicants who are single parents and/or had an interruption in their education.

• Aretha Brock, LPN Memorial Nursing Scholarship $1,500 award given to a student pursuing a nursing degree at Mott Community College or UM-Flint.

• Joenathan Mays Nurse Aide Scholarship $1,500 award given to a student pursuing Nurse Aide education at Mott Community College. Preference given to applicants who are single parents and/or had an interruption in education.

• Mary Alice Moore, RN Nursing Scholarship $1,500 award given to a student pursuing a nursing degree at Mott Community College or UM-Flint.

• Patti Sherry, RN Memorial Nursing Scholarship $1,500 award given to a student pursuing a nursing degree at Mott Community College or UM-Flint. Preference given to applicants who have taken care of cancer patients (including family members) or have been cancer patients themselves.

• Susan E. Buszek, RN Nursing Scholarship $1,500 award given to a student pursuing a nursing degree at Mott Community College or UM-Flint. Preference given to applicants who are single parents.

• David Bradley, RN Nursing Scholarship $1,500 award given to a student pursuing a nursing degree at Mott Community College. Preference given to the non-traditional student who also has the responsibilities of work, home and family.

• Frances J. Simnitch, RN Memorial Nursing Scholarship $1,500 award given to a student pursuing a nursing degree at Mott Community College or UM-Flint.

• Tonia Cole, RN Nursing Scholarship $1,500 award given to a clinical, health care administration or other health-related program at Mott Community College or UM-Flint. Preference given to a student that is a single mother pursuing a nursing education.

• John Peter Rachor, RNFA Nursing Scholarship $1,500 award given to a student pursuing a nursing degree at Mott Community College or UM-Flint. Preference given to single parents and/or had an interruption in education.

• Brenda Auten, RN Nursing Scholarship $1,500 award given to a student pursuing a nursing degree at Mott Community College or UM-Flint.

• Tammie “Ruby” Rubel, RN Nursing Scholarship $1,500 award given to a student pursuing a nursing degree at Mott Community College or UM-Flint. Preference given to High School Graduates or GED recipients and single parents.

• Margaret E. McLaren, RN Centennial Memorial Nursing Excellence Scholarship $1,500 award given to a student enrolled in a clinical, health care administration or health-related program at Mott Community College or UM-Flint. Preference given to single mothers and current employees of McLaren Flint. Based on merit and applicants must submit a one to two-page paper outlining why they want to become a RN and the circumstances which have created their need for financial aid.

Financial Plus Credit Union Offering Annual Scholarships for Students in Michigan

Financial Plus Credit Union’s “Reach for Success” Scholarship will award five students with a $1,000 scholarship. High school students graduating with a 3.0 GPA, full-time college or university students with a 3.0 GPA, and students attending trade school can apply.

The candidate must complete the application with a short essay (500 words or less) answering the prompt: Think about how ready you are for a successful money future, do you feel prepared, why or why not? Share one specific thing you wish you had learned about money earlier in life. Talk about how you're going to learn it now and how it can help you do well in the future.

Back to the Bricks® GIVES BACK

Back to the Bricks® awards a total of $10,000 in post-secondary scholarships each year. The Scholarship Program provides assistance to high school seniors in Flint and Genesee County who are pursuing post-secondary study/training at a college or technical school in auto-body repair/painting, automotive design, auto mechanics, electrical/manufacturing/mechanical engineering, robotics, sales and marketing, software development for automotive applications, welding, or a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) related program.

SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES:

1. All applications must be towards attending a post-secondary accredited school.

2. Preference is given to applicants attending a local college, university, technical school or institution, but not required.

3. Students in Flint and Genesee County already enrolled into a post-secondary program may apply but must be in good academic standing with the school they are currently enrolled in.

4. All applicants shall include an essay from 200-500 words on why they should be granted a scholarship. We encourage each applicant to include a personal accounting as to how the automotive industry or hobby has impacted their lives.

5. Scholarships will be on a ‘one-time’ basis.

6. If available, each application should include a family personal financial statement (FASFA).

7. Include at least one letter of recommendation with your application.

8. Each application shall include a transcript of grades (11th and 12th grades for high school applicants and for those already enrolled into a post-secondary school a current transcript of their grades).

9. The scholarship may be used for tuition and fees.

Community Foundation of Greater Flint Scholarships to Benefit Flint Students

Keith Alton Burden Memorial Fund

To be awarded to graduating seniors of the Flint Community Schools with at least a 2.5 GPA who have demonstrated exemplary community service both to their high school and the greater Flint community. Support will be provided for tuition, books and/or fees at an accredited higher education institution for a certificate, 2-year, or 4-year degree program. An essay and two written recommendations from the organizations at which students have served must be submitted as part of the scholarship application.

Samuel and Leah Bryer Scholarship Fund

To support scholarships for graduating senior high school students of Flint Community Schools who have been accepted at a college, university, or technical school. Additional criteria are academic achievement, financial need, volunteer work, extra-curricular activities, and essay.

Flint Northern Alumni Scholarship Fund

To support scholarship awards to graduating seniors of Flint Community Schools. Multiple annual scholarship awards to include an annual award in the name of Mr. Ray E. Prescott and the Andrew Corsi award to a student with high academic standing. Must have a 3.0 GPA. Verification of acceptance to a college, university, vocational or technical school required. Must demonstrate financial need, provide a list of extra-curricular and community service activities and an essay.

Evelyn Shores Hall Scholarship Fund

To support annual scholarships to graduating high school students of the Flint Community Schools. Must have a 3.0 GPA. Verification of acceptance to a college, university, vocational or technical school required. Must demonstrate financial need, community service, school activities and submit an essay.

Angeline M. Vojdik Krapohl Scholarship Fund

To be awarded to a graduating senior of Flint Community Schools with demonstrated academic achievement, volunteer work, extra-curricular activities and career aspirations, and essay.

Doris M. Logan Scholarship Fund

To be awarded to a female student graduating from Flint Community Schools with a minimum 2.5 GPA required; financial need; demonstrated involvement in community service, an essay and plans to attend a junior college or university.

David Paul Petro Scholarship Fund

To be awarded to a graduating senior of the Flint Community Schools with at least a 3.0 GPA. Consideration should be given to need as well as ability in determining a deserving recipient. Must submit an essay outlining course of study, career goals and plans for financing college.

Bill Piper Scholarship Fund

To provide an annual scholarship to a graduating senior of Flint Community Schools. The Fund was established to celebrate the integrity and commitment to excellence Bill Piper has evidenced throughout his professional and civic careers.

The graduating senior ranked first determined by a combination of highest GPA, highest ACT/SAT score and highest number of AP classes completed in all of the Flint Community Schools.

Dolores Ennis of the Flint Area Education Foundation Scholarship

To be awarded to a graduating African-American female from the Flint Community Schools with the highest GPA. If there should be more than one student eligible, the tie breaker is determined by student's involvement in school and community activities.

Frank J. Manley Scholarship Fund – for City of Flint residents

To provide financial assistance for Flint youth, who are graduating seniors, in their pursuit of postsecondary education. Applicants will be judged on academic proficiency, excellence and rigor, college goals, life goals, school and community involvement, financial need, and a comprehensive autobiography. Final candidates will be interviewed. The student shall maintain a grade-point average of 2.5 or higher in order to remain a recipient. Youth residents of the City of Flint. A scholarship will be awarded for four years providing an acceptable (2.5 GPA or C+ grade average) grade average is maintained.

Flint Kiwanis Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a senior who demonstrates financial need and plans on attending a four-year college or university in the state of Michigan. Genesee County students can ask their high school counselors for more details.

The Flint Kiwanis Educational Foundation has been providing scholarship awards to Genesee County students for over fifty years.  Genesee Intermediate School District distributes applications for the scholarship awards to eligible students who demonstrate financial need and potential for success in postsecondary education. Scholarship awards are up to $1,500/year and are awarded for four years (as long as students maintain eligibility) for students attending a four-year college or university in the state of Michigan.  Please request application materials by emailing  lstrouth@geneseeisd.org. Students selected to receive a Flint Kiwanis Educational Scholarship are recognized at our May Student Athlete and Scholarship Luncheon.

Genesee Health Plan Scholarship

Health Care Career Scholarship Contest

• High school seniors planning to pursue a career in health care or health related sciences may enter an essay for the opportunity to receive a scholarship. The essay must include information about the health career they plan to pursue and why, how learning about their health heritage influenced their selected field of study, and how the Coronavirus pandemic impacted their selected field. Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded.

College? Trade School? 

Applications are open to ALL!  NO prerequisites!  If you have had a few setbacks, had to work, have faced illness or family issues, or if you are just a late bloomer with the character and motivation to succeed, we are looking for you!  Wilsterman Scholarships focus especially on those students whose circumstances may have prevented them from realizing their full potential in high school. In just the last few years we have provided hundreds of scholarships to Genesee County Students - the typical grant consisting of $5,000 each year for 4 years! Lake Michigan Credit Union’s annual Hutt Scholarship Essay Contest

This scholarship is open to high school seniors in Michigan who plan on entering a trade school, college or university in the next academic year. Students must answer the question “A Day in the Life. Michigan Achievement Scholarship

The Michigan Achievement Scholarships are designed to help recent graduates from high schools in Michigan receive funds for continuing education. Eligible students could receive financial aid to attend a college or university with the Michigan Achievement Scholarship, or for a career training program with the Michigan Achievement Skills Scholarship.

Flint - NAACP Scholarship Fund

The NAACP Scholarship Fund is established to assist and encourage young students who are about to enter an institution of higher learning. Students must reside and attend school in Genesee County. Candidates will be notified and asked to appear before an interview panel. Before one can receive the nomination, he or she must have proof of being accepted by an accredited college, university or technical school.

The awardees will also be asked to attend or have their parent/guardian attend the NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner  (TBD). The “pledge” for the award will be given at the dinner. The actual monetary grant will be made after the satisfactory completion of the awardees first semester. The amount of the grant may vary in accordance with the funds and sources available.

 Eligibility Requirements

Applicant must:

• Be a graduating senior from a Flint or Genesee County high school.

• Be a United States citizen that resides in Genesee County.

• Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 (C+) or better.

• Must be accepted or anticipate being accepted in an accredited college/university or trade school.

*NAACP membership and participation is highly desirable
